About Our Board of Directors and Staff
Officers
Steve Moore, Chairman, Founder
Steve has spent more than 25 years working as a tour promoter in the rock, country and Christian music industries. He is CEO of the Country Music Association, has served on the CMA Board of Directors and has taught as an adjunct professor at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. He has spent years working to improve the lives of underprivileged children in poverty-stricken areas through home building, healthcare and education initiatives. He is a member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood, TN.
Tommy Sanders, Vice President
Tommy is the former Operations Director for Project C.U.R.E. and a construction business owner. He has been involved with The Shalom Foundation since 1996 participating in and leading numerous mission trips. Tommy has led the Foundation’s Surgery Center Reconstruction and the Surgical Center Equipment Campaign He lives with his wife, Carol, in Franklin, TN and is an active member of West Franklin Baptist Church.
Wayne Smith, Treasurer
Wayne has been involved with mission efforts in Guatemala and with The Shalom Foundation since 1995. He is retired from the DuPont Company and is currently employed with the United Way of Williamson County as Finance Manager. He is an active member of West Franklin Baptist Church.
Beverly Herro, Secretary
Beverly has worked with The Shalom Foundation since 1996, assisting in the Foundation’s work both in the U.S. and abroad. She is retired from Sony/ATV Music Publishing in Nashville, TN and serves the Board as Secretary. Bev has participated in numerous mission trips to Guatemala to serve children. She serves on the Development Committee and is a tireless advocate for Shalom’s good work. She lives in Franklin, TN and attends Forest Hills Baptist Church.
Board Members
Donnie Dalton
Donnie’s long-time service with the Foundation has included leadership roles in construction, planning and spiritual leadership. He has both led and participated in numerous construction trips. He has served as teh Housing & Community Development Committee chair, as mentor and as a dedicated supporter of Shalom’s Charitable Surgical Cases including Josie and Marleny. He is an active member of Grassland Heights Baptist Church in Franklin, TN.
Tony Harris
Tony has served on construction mission teams since his first trip to Guatemala in 2006. A builder by trade, Tony has a passion for serving those in need and working to help improve living standards in Guatemala. He heads Shalom’s Education Program, has served as a mission team leader and with event planning for the Foundation. He and his wife, Tami, are active members of Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood, TN.
Susan Deaton
Susan is a loyal supporter of the Foundation helping lead fundraising events and outreach activities. She has many years of experience in the Christian music industry, public relations, television production and is a columnist with Nashville Lifestyles magazine. Susan is a great leader and supporter of the Foundation’s events including Hymns, Hams & Jams, Notes for Ninos. She is an active member of Fellowship Bible Church.
Bob Seay
Bob has been a long-time supporter and experienced team leader with The Shalom Foundation. Bob has great business and systems organization experience. He is committed to help Shalom expand its service initiatives including community development in Las Conchas through housing, education, nutrition and medical care. Bob and his wife Melanie attend The Church at Station Hill – A Regional Campus of Brentwood Baptist Church.
Ken Moore, MD
Ken practiced orthopedic surgery for more than 28 years and gained recognition on the state and national level as a leader. He served as president of the Tennessee Orthopaedic, The Tennessee Hand Society and the national organization, The Clinical Orthopaedic Society. He continues to serve at the local and national level in medicine at the committee level. He has served in India, Africa and Guatemala supporting medical missions and clean water. He is a member of the International Starfish Committee with his Rotary Club and has served with Shalom to provide medical support and clean water for children and families. He leads Shalom’s Medical Committee as “medical dirctor” providing leadership in operations and partnership development. He attends Hillsboro Presbyterian Church with his wife Linda.
Allison Bender, Executive Director
Allison has worked within the charitable community for many years. She has extensive development experience leading annual campaigns, cause-related marketing efforts, donor relations and event planning. Allison is an active member of Christian Women in the Marketplace and the Frankin at Breakfast Rotary Club serving on the international and charity committtees. She holds a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Tennessee and has a passion to serve and make a difference. She is a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church.
Maria Jose de Gallardo, Director for Guatemala
Maria joined The Shalom Foundation after serving as liaison for many US surgical missions teams working in Guatemala City and working with Shalom and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. She has spent more than three years working with surgical teams from the US and helping needy children receive medical help in the US that they wouldn’t’t be able to get in their home country. She serves as Shalom Foundation’s Director working from the Guatemala City office. Maria Jose was born and raised in Guatemala City. As a teenager she participated in medical missions and evangelistic missions interpreting for the American teams which changed her life for ever. She is an active member of Vida Cristiana Church with her husband Roberto and daughter Sophie.
Kevin McQuaig, Director of Programs
Kevin worked in the residential mortgage business, was an officer and pilot with the Coast Guard and has a heart for helping others. He is a baseball coach and shares his passions for coaching, teaching and serving with the children in Guatemala. His commitment to international missions and service brought him to work with The Shalom Foundation. His talent with all things IT is a great gift to Shalom Foundation. He attends Brentwood Baptist Church with his wife Heidi and two children.
Claudia Hurtarte, Missions Coordinator
Claudia joined The Shalom Foundation to assist US teams and coordinate their efforts to grow Shalom’s Housing and Community Development projects, Education and Nutrition Programs. Claudia has worked within international missions for much of her career providing operational support, planning, logistics and trip execution living primarily in Guatemala City but also in the Peten. She works as Missions Coordinator in Guatemala City and attends Casa de Dios Church.
Kris Rarick, Office Manager
Kris brings years of administrative and organizational experience to The Shalom Foundation. She is pleased to dedicate her talents to helping Shalom fulfill its mission and support Shalom’s partners, supporters, service programs and projects. Her gifts of encouragement, resourcefulness and detail management are put to work each day. Kris attends The People’s Church in Franklin with her husband, Ken.
