Making a Difference – the Education Program

by kmcquaig on January 13, 2011

The education program does make a difference in the lives of the Guatemalan kids. Below is a testimony from Susana Salvador:

Hola my name is Susana Salvador. I am from Guatemala City, Guatemala. I grew up in the “rat’s nest” in zone 18 in Guatemala City. This place is known for its violence and for so much poverty, and its difficult to built a dream in the middle of a place where you see no future. However, God had a different plan for my life, and He gave me the opportunity to come to the United States at the age of eight. In that short period of time of my life, I learned a little bit of English. Consequently, I got really homesick, and decided to go back to my country (and be with my mother). In that same year, while in Guatemala, I learned through my mother that there were some Americans in my neighborhood. As persistent  as my mother is, she forced me to go out of my house and to speak some English with them. I did. I met Donnie Dalton, and I told him my story, and he told me his. At the time I was not attending school due to my parents not being able to put me to school. But because of God being so wonderful, He blessed me with a scholarship to go to school at Shalom School in Guatemala. I was thrilled about being able to go to school. While being in Shalom School, I met a family from Maryland, and they decided to bring me to America, and study at a high school that would give me a full scholarship. Oh, God did not want for me to settle. I realized that at that time. I finish high school in 2010, and now I am starting college at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. God has blessed me so much, but every blessing has an effort. Now that I being blessed with a half scholarship to Lindsey Wilson College, I want for my dreams to become real, and in order for this to happen I need to pay the other half. I want to become a doctor, and go back to my country and help my own people in any way I can. Right now I am doing nursing, and I have done well in my first semester. I am so full of joy and grateful to see that I have finished my first semester in college, and I know that God has a plan for me. Otherwise, He would not have me here.
