Graduate students and faculty members from Belmont University will travel to Guatemala to provide physical therapy and occupational therapy for children, as well as specialized training for Guatemalan OT/PT students. A team of 30 participants, led by Tamara Garvey are planning for another year of service at Hospital Infantil de Infectología y Rehabilitación. Graduate students and faculty members from Belmont University and Vol State Community College will travel to Guatemala to provide physical therapy and occupational therapy for children, as well as specialized training for Guatemalan OT/PT students. A team of 18 participants, led by Tamara Garvey and Carolyn Moore, are planning for another year of service at Hospital Infantil de Infectología y Rehabilitación. 16 folks traveled to Guatemala to conduct a medical missions trip. They held an optical, dental and general health clinic at the Shalom School. Over 1400 people were assisted, including 561 pairs of glasses prescribed and 375 tooth extractions! The estimated value of medical services provided in U.S. dollars exceeded three hundred thousand! 05/16/10 - 05/22/10 Medical (Clinic) Mission Trips in Belmont University – OT/PT department Hospital Infantil de Infectología y Rehabilitación
Belmont University OT/PT Mission Trip brought 32 folks to work out of the Children’s Hospital for Infectious Disease and Rehabilitation in Guatemala City and held lecturers for OT/PT students at the school. This group also raises significant funds to take needed therapy supplies for the hospital. Related post.
03/07/10 - 03/14/10 Medical (Clinic) Mission Trips in Vanderbilt Biomedical Engineering Manos De Amor Clinic
A team of 12 from Vanderbilt Universities Biomedical Program – traveled to Guatemala to clean, repair and restore much needed medical equipment in one of Guatemala’s state run hospitals. Many of the hospitals in Guatemala struggle to meet even basic equipment needs and this team worked together with a local engineer by bringing needed parts and tools to make the necessary repairs. Seniors in the Biomedical Engineering Program at Vanderbilt University led by Cynthia Paschal, PhD, traveled to Guatemala to work with Shalom Foundation’s partner, Manos De Amor Clinic. Students provided much needed technical support for a variety of critical medical equipment in use throughout the facility.
03/24/08 - 03/29/08 Medical (Clinic) Mission Trips in Belmont University – OT/PT department Hospital Infantil de Infectología y Rehabilitación
Graduate students from Belmont University traveled to Guatemala to provide physical therapy and occupational therapy patient care and training at a local Guatemala City hospital. Eleven graduate students, 3 faculty, and Shalom Foundation staff worked at the Hospital Infantil de Infectologia y Rehabilitacion. The team conducted research for future Belmont University trips, which may include nursing, pharmacy, international business, and language students. Trip participants included OT/PT students Matt Cabbage, Erin Cook, Andrea Kaplon, Elizabeth Lovell, Emily Mettlach, Jaclyn Taliano, Cassidy Townsend, Elizabeth Argo; Belmont faculty members Marsena Waller and Renee Brown and The Shalom Foundation President, Jeff Lynch. Graduate students from Belmont University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, traveled to Guatemala to provide physical therapy patient care and training at a local Guatemala City hospital. Ten graduate students, 2 faculty, and 2 Shalom Foundation volunteers worked at the Hospital Infantil de Infectologia y Rehabilitacion throughout the week alongside local doctors and nurses. The team also conducted research for future Belmont University trips, which may include occupational therapy, nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, international business, and language students.
