The year began with great opportunities for The Shalom Foundation to serve more children and families than ever before through our education initiatives, surgical teams, medical clinics and efforts to improve nutrition for the malnourished. Your time, talents and contributions will help Shalom Foundation to change lives. Volunteers continue “to commit, to go and to serve”. By working with Guatemalan medical leaders, school principals, elected officials, pastors, Rotary Clubs, non-profit organizations, churches and universities, our efforts achieve lasting results. Our talents are multiplied! Who has served this winter? Children’s Hospital Colorado, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, IT Geeks, , Belmont University School of Pharmacy, Vanderbilt School of Engineering, Belmont University School of Physical and Occupational Therapy and Vol State Community College, VU Center for Latin Studies, Guatemala Healing Hands, Clean Water teams, and more! Miguel Angel Castillo is a very happy 14 year old boy. He came to The Moore Pediatric Surgery Center to be evaluated for a tonsillectomy. His tonsils were so big that during the night he suffered sleep apnea waking up almost every two hours because of shortness of breath. On January 26 he was admitted to surgery with Dr. Allan Greg and the Colorado Children’s team. His tonsils were grade 4 – some of the biggest ever seen. He stayed 24 hours in the surgery center and was discharged for home feeling pretty well and eating popsicles. Now he sleeps much better and feels healthier than ever! Thank you! |

Jocelyn “Josie” Vasquez, 5 years old, developed a life-threatening mass – Linphangioma – in her neck as a baby. Through joint efforts with Shalom and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital, Josie received a charitable surgical procedure by Dr. Steve Goudy, ENT when she was 2 year old at Children’s Hospital in Nashville. In February Dr. Steve Morrow, general surgery, and this surgery team helped to complete her healing process at The Moore Center. Dr. Morrow was part of Josie’s original surgical team. It was very moving to see Dr. Morrow with Josie and that this general surgery team could help her again!! She stayed overnight, was discharged the next afternoon looking well and happy and has already started school again. Her parents were most grateful to the surgery team, Shalom’s surgery center and to all the people who made this second surgery possible.”I have no words to express my gratitude for the kindness and care that I have received since 2008 when my daughter had the first big surgery at Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt through the efforts of the Shalom Foundation and now, 4 years later they continue to care for her,” said Veronica Vasquez, Jocelyn’s mother. ” I really thank all who support The Moore Pediatric Surgery Center – it has made it very special to us.” |
