Special Children
Over the years, several children’s surgical needs were so great, that they had to be sent to the United States for the procedure.
Marleny Ambrocio
Marleny Ambrocio’s life was physically transformed by a circle of Shalom Foundation supporters and medical care providers. Several years ago Marleny developed a swiftly growing facial mass endangering her life. Marleny arrived in March 2010 at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for her surgery procedure and follow up care. Led by ENT surgeons Steve Goudy and Chris Wooten and ophthalmologist Louise Mawn, the surgery was a complete success.

Ana Rios
We met Ana, her sister Sephora and brother Jonathan walking in Paradise with her Aunt Ana while on a Medical Mission trip in 2003. Pastor Alvaro was telling us about a little girl he had been asked to pray for who had been shot in a gang related incident. Just as he finished telling us the story, we looked down the street and there came little Ana. She had such a sad look on her face. We were able to get the children sponsored for Shalom School and the whole family became involved with Shalom Church. We kept up with Ana thru Pastor Alvaro and it became evident that she would need serious surgery to get the bullet that was still lodged in her hip area removed. As the surgery would not be possible in Guatemala, we made arrangements to fly Ana and her Aunt to Nashville. Dr. Mac Baxter and Dr. Pat Maxwell performed the necessary surgeries at Southern Hills Hospital. Senator Bill Frist was instrumental in helping with the necessary paperwork for Visas and American Airlines furnished the plane tickets. The Lord blessed this trip for Ana and today she is a healthy teen.
